1824-1898 French landscape painter. Encouraged at an early age by Jean-Francois Millet, Boudin became a strong advocate of painting directly from nature. In 1874 he exhibited with the Impressionists, but, unlike those painters, he was not an innovator, and from 1863 to 1897 he exhibited regularly in the official Salon. His favourite subjects were beach scenes and seascapes, which show remarkable sensitivity to effects of atmosphere; on the backs of his paintings he recorded the weather, light, and time of day. Vaclav Brozik
(5 March 1851 - 15 April 1901) was a Czech academic painter. Since 1868 he studied at the Academy of Arts in Prague, Dresden, and Munich. In 1879 he went on study journey to the Netherlands. He married a daughter of a wealthy art dealer in Paris, who helped him achieve success in French high society. He divided his time between Prague, where he taught at the Academy since 1893, and Paris. In 1896 he was elected as a foreign member and the successor of John Millais in the French Academie des beaux-arts. He died suddenly of cardiac failure and is buried at the Cimetiere de Montmartre.
COORTE, Adriaen
Dutch Baroque Era Painter, ca.1660-1707 Dutch painter. He painted mainly small still-lifes, but contrary to the contemporary fashion for increasingly complicated representations of flowers and fruit, he preferred to paint single objects arranged as simply as possible. Coorte's subjects were generally fruit or vegetables, sometimes shells and, more rarely, flowers or vanitas arrangements. These are generally arranged on a stone plinth or slab, often with a crack or groove on the front edge. In the larger paintings the composition is sometimes enclosed in a niche
